Top 5 Ways Escape Rooms Build Teamwork in The Workplace

Teamwork in the workplace is essential for creating a happy, productive environment for your employees. Not only does teamwork build relationships, trust, and communication, but it also helps enhance your team’s problem-solving skills. One of the best, and most fun, ways to build teamwork in the workplace is with an escape room. Escape rooms are the perfect place to get your employees interested in working together. Encouraging teamwork in this way is enjoyable for your team and beneficial to your company for a number of reasons. If you’re looking for a fun and effective team-building experience, check out our mobile escape rooms today

Determine Strengths and Weaknesses

Working in this high-intensity, yet low-stakes environment can help reveal your employee’s strengths and weaknesses as individuals and as a team. Prior to important business projects, meetings, and presentations, you can figure out where your employees shine and where they can improve on things all through our fun and interactive activities. Escape rooms require the use of common workplace skills such as communication, collaboration, and trust. Here you can assess each of your team members’ strengths and weaknesses and address them to create betting working relationships. Once staff has found their strengths, they’ll learn to use them in our safe, fun environment -- without affecting your bottom line.

You can also determine the roles your employees play in the team by assessing the way they interact during an escape game. This will help you decide what value each member brings to the team and where they will be the most successful in your business. Look for characteristics such as:

Stronger Communication

It’s no surprise that teams that communicate well work better together. Communication is key in any relationship, but it can help speed up work processes and encourage greater productivity and collaboration in the workplace which is huge. Practicing your communication skills is important when preparing for a big meeting or project. It’s even important for displaying your professionalism and securing a business relationship. Since stressful situations are unideal for learning new things, we recommend an escape room to help ease the tension while working on your communication skills. This will help your team learn how to listen and respond effectively, in a casual setting.

Trust Building

Trust is extremely important to build teamwork in the workplace. Creating a culture of trust in your organization will improve creativity, innovation, motivation, and morale among your staff. Trusting your coworkers can lead to more innovative and creative solutions for the business that otherwise would not have been suggested. For example, during an escape room, you might completely run out of ideas for gathering new clues, but your coworker has an idea. You trust them and decide to listen to their idea which leads to a new clue and gets you one step closer to escaping. It’s important that you and your coworkers rely on each other during collaborations like this.

Learn How to Win and Lose Together

It’s important to understand that in order to escape everyone has to fulfill their different roles. The outcome of any team project, presentation, or meeting is shared, which means that you win and lose as a team. This teaches each employee a valuable lesson about teamwork; that each team member needs to contribute and that their contribution is important to the overall outcome. Getting your staff to work together, playing their part in the game, and taking responsibility is crucial to the success of any project. In an escape room, either everyone escapes or no one does. You cannot succeed or fail alone, so you’re going to have to rely on your teammates to do their part.

Get to Know Your Teammates

How well do you know your coworkers? You may be friendly with one another or even see each other outside of work from time to time, but team-building activities are crucial for getting to know someone’s skills and struggles. This is really helpful in the workplace and can bring you closer to some other team members in the office. Building relationships can help improve communication, trust, teamwork, and so much more.

Benefits of Team Building Activities for Work

There are several benefits to trying new team building activities, not only for your company but for the personal growth of your employees as well. For example, you can expect to see noticeable improvements in group participation, employees’ cognitive abilities and communication skills, and overall better performance and productivity. With that in mind, take a deeper dive into the benefits of Reno team building activities with The House Escape.

Increased Creativity

Creativity is highly underrated in many workplaces, but this is an essential skill to have among your team members. A great way to increase creativity with your staff is to have them take part in team-building exercises such as an escape room. Colleagues that interact with one another in this type of setting often challenge each other’s beliefs and assumptions. This has been linked to greater creativity in individuals and teams who work in groups. Working together to escape the confined spaces of a puzzle room can help your employees learn the true value of developing new ideas and methods in a fun and enjoyable way.

A great way to test your employees’ problem-solving skills is with a Reno mobile escape room. The main goal of an escape room is to problem-solve your way out through puzzles and effective solutions. Though the problems are designed to challenge you, they are also designed to help grow your problem-solving skills and develop confidence in yourself. And fortunately, you have an entire team to back you up and help you accomplish your common goal of escaping. This makes escape room games an ideal approach to practicing your problem-solving skills.

Increase Motivation and Productivity

Team-building activities in Reno, such as mobile escape room games, are highly effective in increasing motivation and productivity among your staff. Light competition between co-workers can be extremely motivating. Rather than pinning employees against each other though, escape rooms encourage team members to find as many solutions as possible. This can reflect in the workplace which proves to be highly useful for increasing productivity.

Improved Communication Skills

Communication is key for any team to be successful. However, in many companies, employee communication is done solely through email or video conference. This makes it difficult to develop important communication skills that can only be acquired through face-to-face interactions. Our Reno escape room games help your team develop vital communication skills in a high intensity, low stakes environment. The best part is there’s no risk to your business. Because this activity takes place outside of the office, it won’t make or break your company’s bottom line.

Build Trust in Your Working Relationships

Our escape rooms give your team ample opportunity to build trust amongst each other. If your team is able to figure out puzzles to escape a room together, you can trust that they’ll be able to tackle work projects together as well. After escaping the room, you’ll have faith that your staff has the ability to listen, problem-solve, communicate, and cooperate with one another on business objectives.

Win or lose, at least your staff did the work together! Most importantly, you must keep in mind that everyone escapes, or no one escapes. A team cannot succeed or fail alone, you must work together to create trust and confidence in one another.

Answering Your Questions About Mobile Escape Rooms

The House Escape’s mobile escape rooms are designed to be completely immersive and interactive, providing a game experience unlike any other. You and your teammates will have 60 minutes to solve the puzzle and escape the room before time runs out - are you up for the challenge?

Check out some of our most frequently asked questions below to learn more about mobile escape rooms!

mobile escape rooms

#1 Am I really locked in the escape room?

For safety reasons, the door will be open at all times, if you leave the room before the end of the game you’re game will end. If you need the bathroom do so before the game begins.

#2 Are the rooms scary?

Each mobile escape room has a different theme from the others, but we assure you that none of them are intended to scare our guests. We try to make our themes and stories compelling and thrilling, but never scary.

#3 Can I bring my cell phone into the room?

All outside tools including electronic devices such as cell phones are not allowed in the room with you. Bringing such items into the room will result in immediate removal from the game. We want all of our guests to have fun and challenge themselves. Bringing in phones or other resources gives players an unfair advantage which we want to avoid.

#4  Will players be given hints during the game?

We know the puzzles and games can be difficult and we want you to escape just as much as you do! Because of this, you will be assigned a game master who will provide hints or clues as needed or upon request.

#5 Will there be any physical activity in a mobile escape room game?

Escape rooms are designed to test your brainpower, not your physical strength or abilities.  At most, the activity will involve some squatting down to look under an object or to get a closer look at something. No climbing or heavy lifting is required, just be sure to prepare your mind!

#6 Is there a dress code for mobile escape rooms?

There isn’t a dress code but we do recommend you dress for optimal comfort and mobility. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing that you don’t have to fuss around with. And if you want to dress up or wear a costume to fit the theme of your game, feel free to do so!

#7 Do any of the escape rooms make guests feel claustrophobic?

Each of our mobile escape rooms is designed to fit up to 10 players at a time very comfortably. We’ve created spaces that leave plenty of room for movement at each point during the game.

#8 Will my reservation be canceled if there is inclement weather?

Our mobile escape rooms are completely enclosed and sheltered from harsh weather by our trailer. We will still come to you in rain or shine. Depending on snow your event may be delayed or canceled, this is a case by case basis.

#9 Do the players just sit in a room and play puzzles together?

Mobile escape rooms, also called puzzle rooms, are designed to provide a completely immersive experience. So no, players are not just solving puzzles in a room together. We compare it to detective work in which players will work together to find clues and use their imagination and brainpower to escape the room.

#10 Can children participate in the games?

Children ages 10 and older are encouraged to partake in mobile escape rooms while children under the age of 10, infants, and toddlers will not be allowed in the room. All guests ages 10-16 must be accompanied by an adult. And anyone under the age of 18 must have their Waiver and Release of Liability form signed by their parent/legal guardian.

Misconceptions About Mobile Escape Rooms

Escape games and puzzle rooms have become quite popular in the last few years. You may have heard of mobile escape rooms, or maybe even experienced one for yourself firsthand, but there are still many misconceptions surrounding them. Although mobile escape games can come across as intimidating and impossible to get through, they’re actually quite fun and gratifying!

Still unsure about mobile escape rooms? Learn about them below and check out our FAQ page for even more facts!

Misconceptions About Mobile Escape Rooms

the house scpe truck and trailer mobile escape room#1 If you don’t escape then you’re not smart.

We hear so often from our guests that they must be dumb for not escaping, and this is the farthest thing from the truth! Escape rooms are designed to be challenging - that’s all a part of the fun. Not every group will escape each time, and that’s okay. Just like other puzzle games, escape rooms require time and practice to master. Escaping is a learning experience that gets easier over time. The groups who do really well have likely tried to escape before, and if you do happen to get out on the first try, then you’ll love the more challenging themes!

Just remember that escape rooms are meant to test you, but they’re also meant to be enjoyable - so don’t take it too seriously! And try not to get discouraged because you can always try again.

#2 Mobile escape rooms are designed to be unsolvable.

Again, escape rooms are designed to challenge you and your teammates, but no room is unsolvable. Each theme is carefully structured and designed to provide all the information you need to solve the puzzle using items found in the room. Unlike other puzzle games, escape rooms are intended to be an immersive experience where guests use their surroundings to find clues rather than reading it from text in a book. And, if you are having trouble or get stuck somewhere along the way, you can always reach out to your game master for help!

#3 All escape room companies are connected.

Many people assume that escape room facilities are a part of the same affiliation or association, but this often isn’t the case. Contrary to popular belief, escape rooms typically run as small businesses that are owned and operated by individuals with a passion for puzzles. Some escape room companies may belong to a parent company or be part of a franchise, but the majority are locally owned.

#4 The staff are watching and judging you the whole time.

We can see why this would be a concern for some, but when it comes to The House Escape team, our only goal is to help you escape. Just because we know how the puzzle is solved doesn’t mean we think it’s easy for others to figure out. We know these puzzles are challenging and while we do get a good laugh from some of the quirky things people try, we’re watching and rooting for you the entire time!
